Derivita Power User Stories: Teacher of The Month

First up we have Anand Bernard, who teaches Math 7 and 8 at Sunset Jr. High! Check out our short interview about his Derivita journey below:

What year did you first start using Derivita?

I really started using Derivita last year.

How did you first discover Derivita?

Lindsey Henderson the former USBE Secondary Math Specialist let me know about it in a meeting.

What made you decide to start using Derivita?

I was looking for away to give my students more instantaneous feedback and to hold them more accountable on assignments.

How many students are using Derivita now?

I have about 200 students I use Derivita with.

How are you incorporating Derivita into your day-to-day instruction?

I used to use it mostly for assignments, I currently am using it more with assessments.

Have you seen any positive or negative impacts that Derivita has had in your classroom?

Students like the feedback and multiple attempts Derivita has. I enjoy the flexibility and time saving power of Derivita.

What is your favorite feature of Derivita?

I love how easy it is to grade student work or any picture assignment with Derivita. It is so much faster than using Speed Grader on Canvas.

 
What is your least favorite feature of Derivita?

I wish it was easier to fix mistakes on the questions I make when I already publish them.

What is something you wish Derivita had but it currently does not?

If you could describe Derivita in one sentence - how would you do that?

Flexible.

How long have you been teaching?

This is my 9th year.

What is your favorite part about the teaching and learning process?

I love when students get excited about making connections or discovering relationships.

What is your go-to song on Apple Music or Spotify or YouTube right now?

It’s October so I have been loving “What’s This” from Nightmare Before Christmas. I really like the Fall Out Boy cover version.
