Job Summary:


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Science Item Writer (Grades 6-8) to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing high-quality, engaging, and NGSS-aligned assessment items for elementary science students.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop evidence-based, three-dimensional, multiple-choice and tech-enhanced assessment items.
  • Ensure that all items are aligned with the relevant state standards and curriculum frameworks.
  • Write clear, scientifically accurate, and age-appropriate item stems and answer choices. 
  • Generate concise, easy-to-understand, and factually correct justifications. 
  • Create or locate openly licensed charts and graphs to be used as stimulus for items. 
  • Use a variety of item formats to assess a range of cognitive skills.
  • Collaborate with other item writers and content experts to ensure the quality and accuracy of assessment items.
  • Participate in item review and revision processes.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Earth Sciences, or a related scientific field.
  • Strong understanding of Grades 6-8 science content and NGSS standards.
  • Experience in developing and writing assessment items for state or national assessments.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with digital assessment platforms.
  • Familiarity with current assessment trends and best practices.
  • Experience teaching middle school science.
